Ryan Gosling's performance in
Half Nelson earned him a Best Actor nomination from the Academy. I've been wanting to see the film since it was out in theaters but never got the chance. We finally watched it on DVD yesterday and I have to say that it wasn't exactly what I expected. Basically, it's about a teacher with a drug habit who forms an unlikely friendship with one of his students after she discovers his secret.
When it's over you kind of feel like nothing happened. Nothing spectacular or dramatic happens - it just kind of ends. It's not a bad film and I appreciated how it avoided anything cliche or cheesy, but I don't know why it got "Two
BIG Thumbs Up."
I highly doubt Gosling will win. If you like him, you should check out
The Believer - his acting is phenomenal and the film is more engaging.
