Let's Get It Over With

Okay, I must admit, I got suckered in to watching Survivor: Racialists last night. I wasn't planning to watch it, but when Allen was flipping through the channels we happened upon it and saw that it's the new "race v. race" season. When I first heard the news that CBS was going forward with this set-up, I was somewhat disgruntled. I thought it was a horrible idea that would only create hard feelings and further divison.

So as we watched them get ready for their challenge, I found myself thinking, "Go Asian team!" And as the challenge was underway I found myself yelling at the TV, "Come on Puka!! Paddle, paddle, paddle! Move your asses up that ladder!" And when team Puka won, I found myself ridiculously proud, as if I had paddled and climbed with them.

I don't know that this will make me watch the show religiously, but if it's on and I'm just at home, I'll probably tune in. I doubt team Puka Puka will win every challenge, so I can't help but wonder how I'll react when they lose. I only caught half a show and I'm already automatically rooting for the Asian Americans (note I purposely left out the hyphen). Of course, I think I'll be able to rise above Survivor: Cook Islands and NOT look at every black, white, brown person on the street as the enemy, but I know that within the context of the show, I'll definitely be looking for the non-Asians to fail. And when they eventually have to mix up the teams, what happens then?

This guy is awesome. He's a nail salon manager, but he's also retained the "old ways" and can pluck a headache right out from a teammate's forehead. According the afflicted teammate, it worked!
