As many of you know, there was a huge fire in Malibu yesterday. The fire completely destroyed four homes and severely damaged four more. Last night, the local media focused solely on reporting news of the blaze and updating us on the condition of those multi-million dollar homes. Seriously, it was like there was nothing else going on in the world.
Just to give you a better idea of who was affected, Suzanne Somer's home was damaged. Also, Victoria Principal's publicist quickly released a statement that the "star's" home was close to the fire, but unharmed. She added that Ms. Principal is offering food and water to neighbors who can't get into their homes. What a friggin' saint.
I'm sorry, but I really could care less about these millionaires whose homes were burned. The people who own those beachfront homes have plenty of money to rebuild. It's sad that they may have lost personal possessions that can not be replaced, such as photographs, but their situation pales in comparison to a truly catastrophic devastation such as Katrina.

Residents of the gulf coast are still trying to rebuild and the majority of them are poor. Insurance companies are washing their hands of these people, saying that their hurricane coverage doesn't apply towards flood damage.

Maybe the media could keep a little perspective and continue to cover the aftermath of the hurricanes that hit the gulf coast.
